Ever since I saw my first smoke bomb/flare photo, I wanted to try the technique. So far, I have attempted it on 3 occasions. All of which have been valuable learning curves. The first try was a complete failure! I hadn’t thought about basic things such as wind direction, lighting, background or colour scheme and I also messed up with the technical’s too, wrong shutter speed, wrong aperture, all wrong!
I decided to go back to the drawing board and really think how I could achieve the image(s) I had in my head. So with a new confidence and knowledge, I set out for my 2nd try, it was a success! (to some extent) I corrected all I had gotten wrong on the 1st go and I was so happy with the result, even if I could of had a slightly faster shutter speed! Then, on my 3rd try, I really felt I’d got it but failed to account for the moving sun!? Resulting in some good images but extreme crops were needed to hide all of the blown out areas.
All in all, I was very happy with the results, so I’ve put them in a small slideshow gallery for you to check out! I will be trying this style again but this time, hopefully, with more people! (I need a better model than just me!)
